Ялуторовск расположен в 74 км к юго-востоку от Тюмени по автотрассе Тюмень -Омск. Общая площадь городских земель - 5,2 тыс. га. Площадь зеленых насаждений - 0,5 тыс. га. Протяженность улиц, проездов, набережных - 107 км.
Численность населения на 1.01.2008г. -приблизительно 43,0 тыс. человек. По итогам переписи 1989г. в городе проживали 90,7 процента русских, 5,4 - татар, 1,2 - украинцев, 0,7 - немцев, 0,4 - белорусов и представители других национальностей.
В городе - 10 дошкольных образовательных учреждений; 7 государственных общеобразовательных школ; 2 учреждения начального профессионального образования; 2 государственных средних специальных учреждения, из них один колледж.
Действуют 2 спортивных комплекса, 2 спортивных клуба, 2 детских юношеских спортивных школы, 3 стадиона. Работают филиалы Тюменского нефтегазового университета и Ишимского педагогического института.

В Ялуторовске имеются 1 музей, 2 культурно - досуговых учреждения, 8 библиотек. Для верующих открыты церковь и 2 часовни, а также открылся корт,фантан и многое другое.

Имеется железнодорожный вокзал, автовокзал, которые расположены на одной привокзальной площади. К услугам приезжающих работает гостиница.

На территории Ялуторовска расположено более 450 организаций. Ведущее место среди отраслей промышленности занимает пищевая. Наибольший удельный вес в пищевой промышленности приходится на молочную и мукомольно-крупяную. Наиболее крупная организация - ЗАО "Ялуторовскмолоко". Развита мебельная промышленность. Организациями легкой промышленности осуществляется пошив спецодежды и других изделий.
В Ялуторовске издаются газеты: "Ялуторовская жизнь" и "Ценовой Вестник". Работает телекомпания "Стелла".
